“Settle in place” smoke was a bust- temp issues

The spike at startup typically occurs because the initial “lighting” may require extra pellets (especially if you vacuumed out the ash and sucked up pellets). The fact it settled over time is great! My problem is the internal measurements are way off so I have to run a third party thermometer probe to get the right temp. Each time I change the temp while cooking I have to monitor the 3rd party probe to dial in my Traeger. The difference is not linear.
 
One of the few benefits of SIP is being able to smoke more often.
I guess there is something to be said for having my old Jr.
I second the vacuuming suggestion. I also have kiln bricks and the thermal mass helps stabilize the temperature swings.
