In the USA, Mother's Day is celebrated the 2nd Sunday in May. In 2023, that will be May 14, less than two weeks away. The day is a time to celebrate not only our own mothers but all the wonderful ladies both young and old who have impacted our lives. What a better way to show your appreciation for the women in your life than to cook them some of their favorite dishes. My wife says that any meal she does not have to prepare always tastes better.

So what's cooking for Mother's Day? Posting your suggestions here might inspire others who have not yet decided, or may not even have thought about it at all.

My grandmothers, mother, and aunts passed away years ago. I still have a wife, a sister, a daughter and a granddaughter to celebrate. My wife is the only one for whom I will cook that day; the others live far away. My wife's favorite protein is chicken, so that is what I will prepare for her that day. Now I have to decide what to do for the side dishes. Suggestions anyone?

You can’t go wrong with Mac and cheese, roasted potatoes and sweet tea. However I’m in the south so we do things a little differently.

I’m actually grilling (not Traeger) my mom and my wife burgers, hand cut fries and my own NY Cheesecake they love.

I grew up in Virginia, so I am quite familiar with the sweet tea thing. However, as I am pre-diabetic, I now drink mine unsweetened. We used to drink iced tea year round, even with snow on the ground. I remember the first time I traveled on business up to northern Wisconsin. I asked for iced tea at a restaurant during the middle of winter with snow on the ground. They brought me a pot of hot water, a tea bag and a glass of ice. I guess their regular customers never requested iced tea.

I hope all the wives, mothers, and grandmothers had a great Mother's Day yesterday. I had great aspirations for the Mother's Day meal, but it rained nearly all day, so I ended up cooking inside on the kitchen stove. The meal turned out well. A container of tulips (my wife's favorite) and a small bag of Ghirradelli chocolate squares insured my wife felt appreciated as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

1. Chicken tenders were cut into cubes, marinated, sautéed and then topped with orange sauce.
2. I made fried rice by sauteing chopped onion, garlic, ginger, carrots, and celery until softened. Then I added broccoli and scrambled eggs and cooked until the broccoli was the right texture. Finally I added brown rice cooked earlier in the day. This was then seasoned with the leftover orange sauce and some soy sauce and heated until warmed through.

Although it was not what I had planned, the meal was great and we have enough for another meal or two.
