So it appears that the Traeger move to the Amazon cloud may be to their peril. I know several owners who are ready to toss their Traegers for the competition.

This all started a few months ago. Search the forums, Reddit and other websites. Owners have been stuck using their smokers without WiFi or have had to come up with hacks of their own to connect.

I have a software and mobile app development background and can tell you that their mobile app needs attention.

When the steps in the pairing tell you to say YES and connect the grill to its own WiFi SSID....there is a problem.

Unfortunately, the Ironwood 650 cannot just be reset back to an old firmware. We are stuck with the 2.00.00 version after a factory reset.

My pairing gets all the way to "connected to your network" and then the app pukes and says "cannot find any networks".

Pathetic.... Open to suggestions but ready to toss this POS.

I had tech support stumped with not being able to connect, but managed to get mine to work recently. Since they are adamant about connecting to a 2.4Ghz network, I setup a GUEST network (2.4Ghz ONLY) on my wireless router with essentially no security. It finally connected. I read on another post that once it updated you could set it back to any network you wanted. That did work for me... I have turned off the Guest network and the grill is staying connected on my regular network with security enabled. If you can enable a guest network to at least get it connected and updated... it's worth a try. If I couldn't get wifi connected, it was going back. Now I'm pretty happy with it.

Firmware Version 2.00.00 has known BUGs that prevent it from connecting successfully to Wi-Fi ... that version goes back to January ... you need to contact Traeger Customer Service and have them ship you a replacement controller with at least 02.00.01 (or preferably 02.01.03) pre-installed. Firmware Version 02.02.00 is the latest version ... once you are running 02.00.01 (at a minimum), you should be able to successfully connect to your Home Wi-Fi Network - leave the grill turned on and it will eventually step through the updates (to both Firmware & Config Version) and get you to the latest versions ...

Perhaps Y'all are aware that the 2.4GHz band allows for more distance than the 5GHz band?! That being said, that's exactly why Traeger chose to use the 2.4GHz band! I've got a newer Netgear Nighthawk Router that can do the 2.4 & 5 simultaneously...I turned the 5 off!!! Totally worthless!!!...not just on this router but on a previous Linksys I had too!!! With the 2.4 I have multiple wireless devices, 3 of which are netgear wireless bridge units...one of which I used for connecting my TRAEGER WIFIRE to!!! I initially tried to connect to the main router but being that my main wifi is in the basement and my Traeger WiFire on my carport, one level up and at an oblique angle firing through the house structure, it was easier to use the wifi bridge which was on the other side of a wall about 15 feet away. It probably doesn't help that the WiFire is surrounded by metal and has a diminutive antenna!!! Would like to see someone hack it, add a passthrough and add a directional Beer "CanTenna" onto it!!!🤣😆😂

How do you check your version and upgrade the firmware? Via the app somehow?

If you have the WiFire unit, once online it should automatically check for and install firmware updates!!!😁👍🏻

The thing to do is to leave the grill plugged in and rear power switched on, but controller off. In this "standby" mode the grill will get the most current updates, usually in a few days.

People have asked for a better way to push latest software thru the app but so far, nope.

You can check version from the grill display in settings, Wi-Fi, about.

As soon as I got my Pro 575 on the network, it immediately checked for and installed firmware updates...absolutely no waiting!!!😏

Yup, but subsequent updates don't always happen right away in my experience. The last one took a week on standby.

It may have installed your firmware right away but it took mine 2 weeks to get the "configuration" version updated... there are 2 things to update

I’ve just purchased a 575 before Xmas and there’s no way in hell this pos will connect to my ph ! It shows it’s connecting with the grill and I get as far as naming my grill in the app then that’s it it won’t show in the app as my grill ! I’m getting seriously pissed with it

Have you read and checked this whole page?? ► https://www.traegergrills.com/support/wifire-diagnosis-step-1

And this page ► https://www.traegergrills.com/support/wifire-troubleshooting

Your home WiFi has to be 2.4GHz wireless network.... you can NAME your grill later, try just using the name they give you and move on.

Did you UNINSTALL the APP and clear your phone's cache, install and start over, but UNPLUG your grill also between attempts.

I have tried everything that has been advised to me but still no luck !

Advised to you by whom?? More details would help us help you. Does your Traeger have the WiFi signal icon on your screen?? and what does it show...

I’ve been on messenger with Traeger and they’ve told me to do all sorts but nothing has worked to date !
