As you know I sold my Traeger and bought the Masterbuilt.
Yesterday I cooked up the best St.Louis ribs I have ever done.
So what was the difference in the machines.
First the temp swing is a bit high for me, Set 240 used my Fireboard to measure the pit.
I put half a bucket of lump charcoal in followed by two chunks of apple wood and another half on top of that.
Smoke was great and I did add a couple of chunks into the ash collector to up it a bit.
Temp moved from a low of 220 to 260 but my average was 242.
3 hours with a simple rub of Sea salt, pepper, garlic, onion and paprika. Spritzing every 45 mins after the first hour.
Wrapped in a sauce mixture of cup of the spritzer, cup of BBQ sauce and a stick of butter.
Out after 3 hours and into the cooler for 45mins.
Could the Traeger do it any better? It could do but the smoke taste was very distinct from the apple chunks.
I have some rib eye ready to test against a slow smoke, then a quick sear. Here the advantage will be the quick rise in temperature the Masterbuilt has.
will let you know.
All the best.

Sounds great! So temp changes are quick? Both up and down?

And, do toss in some pics of the grill in action. I'm very intrigued by this design.

have you picked up any of the coconut briquettes? i'd try mixing a few with lump and wood to see if you can get longer life per load up.

congrats on the Mbuilt. i have a cheapo electric mbuilt that's done me right more times than wrong. (the wrongs were user error. i saw the ID 10 T pop up on the display.) \

cheers!

Thanks for coming over and sharing your experiences @davwhite
Hope you continue to, and maybe some pics of this in action like @RemE had already asked. I know a lot of us would be interested in seeing it
