Has anyone here ever considered (or built/implemented) an automated spray system within your smoker? I'm picturing one to four spray nozzles mounted on a manifold, with each nozzle independently controlled to spray a liquid (juice, broth, etc) at periodic intervals. I'm thinking this could be useful for overnight cooks and would help retain some heat due to not having to open the smoker.

Anyone ever explore this?

Sounds good but not only would it be complicated, time consuming and expensive, it would be something else to have to clean/rinse and troubleshoot. In reality I never get up during the night to spray, actually I hardly ever do spray and my results have always been good.

"Complicated, time consuming and expensive?" Hmmmm....that sounds like a challenge :)

Closest I come to that is just injecting humidity into the smoke chamber while I smoke sausages. I use a reptile humidifier for that process.

I just add a pan of water or diluted vinegar to a pan placed alongside the cook.
