Silverton 810
I’m trying to decide which model to purchase that‘ll still be able to perform well in a Canadian winter. Costco roadshow is rolling through my city and I’m eyeing up the Silverton 810. Anyone know if it’s insulated enough to withstand -20 degree temperatures? If not, any recommendations for a grill with a price tag under 2000$?

Like the Timberline and Ironwood grills, the Silverton does not have a smokestack. Traeger does not sell custom insulation blankets for these grills.

I believe the bottom and sides of the Silverton have two layers of metal. Some people have stuffed insulation between the two layers, but you have to be careful that the insulation does not get soaked with grease. The lid of the grill is only a single layer of metal. If you do plan to do cooks with temperatures below 0 F, you might want to purchase a welding blanket to lay over the grill to provide additional insulation. Just make sure that the blanket does not block the exhaust vents on the back of the grill.

Also insure that the grill is sheltered from the wind as that will make the heat loss even greater.,

Harbor Freight lists a 4 ft. X 6 ft. welding blanket for around $24.00. If you are handy with shears, you could fashion a cover that would have a cutout for the rear exhaust and cover the entire top lid of the smoker, Just a thought. I have one for my Texas 075 and have trimmed it to fit the parts I want to cover. The only caution would be to remove and clean the outside of your smoker after each cook. The smoke that seeps out around your top cover is greasy and will make a mess on your insulation blanket and your grill. Hope this was of some help. Welcome to the forum, great folks and great recipes.

The Silverton 620 & 810 have three layers of metal. There is the outside chassis walls, the fire pit walls and a stainless steel pit insert. Underneath, in the storage area, there is floating heat shield suspended from the outside/bottom of the pit.

The stainless steel pit insert is flush with the bottom and sides inside the pit. In the front and rear the stainless insert is offset inside 3/4" from the pit walls.
