Pellet HopperDent Damage
I just purchased a Silverton 620 from Costco this past Sunday, April 2. While attempting to assemble the grill, I found a large dent on the Pellet Hopper. And this dent was found before I attached the legs. Please see the attached photos. My interpretation is that this is damage from the manufacture; as the box didn't look badly damaged.

Q) What do your pellet hoppers look like? Is this likely manufacturer's damage?

Thanks so much!
M

Probably…..but depending on where it lay in the box it may not have looked damaged. You’re taking it back, right?

That is damaged, take it BACK to Cosco...

FYI, we are not affiliated with Traeger or the company in anyway, just wanted to make sure you knew that.

I called Traeger this morning, and luckily they agreed it's damaged.

They offered me two choices:
OPTION 1) Traeger delivers me a replacement pellet hopper
OPTION 2) Exchange back to Costco

I opted for Option 2 Exchange back to Costco, which is a lot of work; I have to get the legs and all pieces back in the heavy box, and then lift into/outta the car again--twice.

But I think OPTION 1 is is riskier as I don't know how difficult it will be to replace the pellet hopper, which has mechanical and electronic parts (and perhaps connections to the auger--unsure). My understanding is that the pellet hopper comes already assembled to the main grilling unit. I don't want to have to disconnect those two pieces.

Assumption is correct. Take that sucker back.

That is a crying shame. Traeger typically does a superb job of packaging their grills. I cannot imagine how the hopper could have gotten damaged like that.

I wondered how it got damaged too. A possibility is that the hopper was damaged prior to being put in the box.

I got a new Silverton 620 at Costco.

Returning the damaged one required me to put all the pieces back in the box, get it in the car and drive it over. The return went smooth at Costco, but they did want to visually see the damage. They accepted the return, and then asked me to buy a new one (interestingly at a lower price--apparently it went on another sale).

The new one is undamaged! Going to try out my new grill today with a whole chicken.

Nope. It’s the shipping companies 99% of the time. The good guys are great but a large percentage of them smash the heck outta everything. There’s also the people that load the trucks. I’m amazed at how poorly things are handled.

Considering the amount of shipping that is required to get the grill from China to the West Coast and then to your local Costco distribution center and finally to your local Costco, it is amazing that more stuff does not get damaged.

Very true! Things have changed so much nowadays, people don’t take pride in the work they do anymore.
