Seasoning Grill Grates?

Grill Grates for my IW650 arrived yesterday, looking forward to putting them to use this weekend. Curious what everyone has done to season them before using? I saw in the instructions to use a half an onion, wondering anyone else has done or results with the half-onion method?

I followed the instructions and it seemed to work. I haven't used them much, but when I have, they didn't stick at all.

I've used half an onion on other grates. It works well and leaves behind a slick residue.

I did the same thing - worked well!

Yes half an onion is perfect.
Use them a lot for steaks smash burgers.
Hot links pizza. Great addition to the smoker.
