My 650 has started randomly shutting off in the middle of cooking or when inserting the probe. I’m sure it is related to static electricity it’s happened when plugging in probe but also when it’s already in.
the issue is how to get it restarted. It seems to take an extraordinarily long time to get going again. Any thoughts?

I wonder if your probe has a dead short in it, or if there is a short on the controller.
Might be worth a call to customer support and have them on video chat to show them how it happens.

That's strange. Are you sure you are not experiencing brown outs?
Positive, it happens exactly when plugging in the probe or when moving the probe around while plugged in.
my question however is about starting it back up. You’d think since it was up to temp it would quickly go from igniting to preheat to ready. But instead goes into a drawn out ignition phase and temp starts dropping until it finally cycles into the preheat phase

Sure sounds like a shorted probe. Try moving the existing probe around with gloves on.
