So I live in Texas. We have a 20% chance of rain until about October, so how do you account for rain chances during a long cook? Even during a short window last night cooking salmon I got caught in a 15 minute downpour. Can my Pro 34 handle an intermittent rainstorm?

We recently had this discussion. The summary is that no one is going to tell you that yes, you should just cook away in the rain without worry. These things are expensive. But there were several people that have used them while raining with no problem. One popular trick seems to be do take a cookie sheet and place it upside down over the hopper and electronics. Oh and ensure your power supply is protected.

I am looking to get some sort of awning or pop up tent to combat the very same problem.

We got on and off rain all through my rib cook yesterday and I just put a patio umbrella over the grill. I have seen others erect one of those inexpensive 10x10 pop up canopies.

My biggest worry about the rain is the temp drop. Our rain can get pretty cold, ,even in the summer, and the temp can drop quickly. It went from 180 to 160 before I could get the umbrella up.

If you think you could lose power (even for a few seconds) during a storm, get yourself a cheap battery backup so that you don't lose your progress during an outage.

As for the rain - just try to keep the electronics and pellets as dry as you can and keep the cover off until it's dry.

I’ve used a canopy twice now because of a chance of rain.

Besides if it does rain, I don’t get as wet either!🤪

I agree with this. It rained during my last cook and I didn't cover up anything and it went fine, but it was not a bad storm. What I worry about most is a momentary power loss during a storm and purchased a battery backup for this.
