I want to share my experience with my new Ironwood 885, in case someone has the same problem:
I just got a new Ironwood 885, well it was produced in April 2020, so not the newest, but ok. It initially came with a controller version 01.01.06, which was unable to connect to Wifi or even update. So I called CS in Europe and the guy on the phone said this version cannot be updated through the customer, instead it needs to be sent in to Traeger and they will flash it. Will take about 2 Weeks I called my dealer where I ordered the grill from and he immediately send me a replacement controller he took from one of the grills he had in stock. Good move!
Two days later the new controller arrived, but unfortunately it was not on the newest software, but on 02.01.03. At least I could connect it to Wifi and use the app.
Searching and reading the internet you are supposed to leave the grill in idle connected to the internet a few days and it will download/update to the latest software automatically. Well, this did not happen to my grill within a week
I chattet to CS via the in-app Support, which I think is a nice feature, if you own an iPhone. But CS did not come up with a solution so far. I decided to do another reset and reconnect the grill to the Traeger app on my phone, again without success. So I connected the grill to my cellphone’s hotspot and boom! - it downloaded and updated my device to the latest version!
I live in Germany and it seems like not all internet providers allow access to all server/services around the world. I had the same thing in the past…
So for everyone outside the US, in Europe or Germany and not getting updates, try to use a different internet provider.
