Hi,

I haven't been receiving any type of "Clean your grill" messages/notifications on my phone nor on my Traeger Pro 575 for several months now. During that time, I've had quite a few cooks on the grill and put a lot of hours on the timer. Finally, I decided that the grill wasn't going to tell me to clean it, so I went through my normal cleaning process before cooking ribs yesterday. There was definitely a lot of ash buildup inside. Even after running the grill for about 7 hours yesterday, still no cleaning notification. Also, during the last few months, I've received several notifications on the grill to season it. Anyone else having similar problems with "clean" notifications not showing up? Did Traeger change the timer in the software/firmware to not require cleaning as often?

Yes, the software and firmware are all up to date. So, other than buying a different pellet grill or calling Traeger, does anyone have any suggestions to correct this problem? Of course, maybe it's not so much of a problem since the messages can be annoying, and always show up right before a long cook. LOL!!

Thanks in advance!!

I’d recommend cleaning after all your cooks regardless. From what I read on this forum it is 100% worth it given the risk of grease fires. I am an admitted noob to smoking though.

I've only had our Traeger for a little more than 2 years now, but have probably killed at least 30 bags of pellets, and have yet to have a grease fire. I typically clean it within 1 or 2 cooks after being notified since it never seems to tell you about cleaning it after a cook; it's always right before.

I've cooked chicken, pork, beef, grilled cheese, and pizzas. Pork shoulder, burgers, brats, and meatloaf were probably the things with the most fat in them, and none of them ever even produced a flare-up.

I usually only cook for 2 of us, so that limits the amount of grease, but unless you cook on the edge beyond the drip tray, the grease should all drain away and not cause any fires since it's indirect heat. I personally cook beyond the edge when searing and for the grill marks. Since I reverse sear, there's very seldom any grease that makes it below the drip tray, and I always clean up whatever there is when I clean.

There's nothing wrong with cleaning your grill after every cook (other than the expense of the drip tray liners), but that's probably time better spent throwing back a couple of cold ones. LOL!!

I get notified after I have cleaned it. LOL.
Traeger support is my suggestion.

Yeah, I don’t clean nearly as often as other people I know. I do however pay attention to what I have cooked and what I am cooking next. That’s the key to prevention of grease fires. I can go 6 months without a deep clean if I pay attention to the “dirty” cooks. I often employ foil pans to preemptively capture the mess. I also am a huge proponent of cooking any BBQ cooks on the second level which makes the first mitigating action really appease to employ. A I also fat combusts at 375 degrees. You simply need to be cognizant of this fact and avoid the intersection of the two factors. Not complicated.

Well on the other hand I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of these annoying messages for months. The message pops up even just after I clean.

I vacuum out the firebox, scrape the grills, replace the aluminum foil liner (I use Al foil, not the expensive Traeger pans) and wipe out the grease trap every couple weeks. I clear the hopper and augur and vacuum those every couple months. Depends on grill time and food. So far no grease fires. I had too much ash suppress the pellet fire (may have been humidity related too) but not since I started vacuuming at this rate.
