Grill
Ironwood 650
I am a bit challenged when working with apps. I bought a new Ironwood 650. Does the app usage come free with the grill or do you have to pay a fee or subscription to use it? Sorry for my ignorance, but would like to hear from folks who have and use the app. Also does it cost to use the recipes or download the cook routines.

It’s all free.

The app is free, but whether you find it useful depends upon your preferences. I have an IW885 with a pellet level gauge. If the hopper goes empty over the auger, the app sends an audible alert. Since the Traeger RTD thermocouple and internal temperature probe of of questionable accuracy, I do not use the app to monitor the cook. Thus, I do not tend to use the app.

There are some recipes available on the app, but you can access them even if you do not own a Traeger. You can also get recipes from the apps from competitive grill brands.

I use it to change temps and shut down the grill

As I said, it all depends on your preferences. Unlike today's younger generations, I am not wedded to my smartphone. Most of the time, it sits on the counter or on the charging pad, not in my pocket.

Thanks to everyone for your answers. It's been so cold I haven't messed with it yet. I think my first adventure is going to be chicken wings.

You must have the only traeger with an accurate temperature probe.

I find the app useless to use that way because testing shows my traeger probe is totally wacked.
It doesn’t have to be accurate to change the temps. If I want to bump up to a higher temp I still use the app and use my InkBird to verify

And I was just saying what I use it for. It’s definitely all preference…..as most things are. It doesn’t have really anything to do with being wedded to my phone though
