Hello Everyone,
My name is Tom and I am located in Salem, Va. My daughter in law and I have been using the Masterbuilt electric smokers for a few years. In September of this year my son bought her a Traeger for her birthday and has been bragging about it ever since. Well my birthday came along in October and they bought me a Traeger Tailgaiter. I used it for the first time today and tried to smoke some burgers. I found a recipe that called for 180 degrees for 2 hours. The burgers were not even halfway cooked. I guess I need a lot higher temperature and some experience ! Also trying to use the center button on the controller to get to the timer didn’t seem to work right. I think I need to experiment some. Thanks for letting me in the Forum.

Tom

I don't have the same grill, but presuming you were starting with burgers at fridge temp to start, that seems way off to me. I routinely do fresh burgers at about 225 on my T-1300 and they typically take about 20-25 minutes. Do you have a separate temp probe (e.g. InkBird or Fireboard) to make sure the temp you are cooking at is accurate?

Also, 180 seems too low to me for burgers, but that's just my personal preference.

One final note :) See if you can get Grill Grates (www.grillgrate.com) for your Traeger as they make searing possible.

Good luck!
