I bought a 10 lb Rib Roast/Ribeye Roast/Prime Rib Roast (all these names are the same thing right?)

I cut off a 2-inch piece of it and slow-smoked it to 125F, then finished it by searing it in a blazing hot cast iron pan. Which magically turned it into a Ribeye steak!

LOL, unfortunately salivating taste buds overcame photographic desires before I realized I should have taken an after shot.

This seems like a great way to get ribeyes, the roasts always seem to be cheaper by the lb and you can be your own butcher cutting your own steaks to whatever thickness you want.

Have I stumbled onto a secret here?

I used to buy 6lbers from Sam's and cut each end off for steaks and cook the 4lb for PR
