Issues with Proton VPN and the Traeger App.

As soon as I connect to a VPN, even after I disconnect from the VPN, even after I uninstall the VPN app, the Traeger app on my phone stops working.

You can connect to the Grill however the app doesn't realise the Grill is connected to your WiFi. You can't see your WiFi network on the app ever again.

The only way you can fix is to do a software reset on the Grill, reinstall your Trager app and never install VPN software again.

Android Auto, as long as you are disconnected from the VPN, it works wirelessly. With the traeger app, you can't even have the VPN software on your phone. It's a shame...

This is the correct answer as making blanket statements about all VPN clients is incorrect. I am required to use a VPN client on my phone and the Traeger app works just fine.

Keep reminding yourself, you are not connecting your phone to the grill, you are connecting the app to the Traeger service, which your grill is actually connected to.

Agreed. Traeger app could be refusing the connection because the VPN is trying to log in from a blacklisted IP or an IP that is located or geo-located in a country that isn't supported. Some VPN's allow you to buy a dedicated IP.

I actually did wonder about this after I posted.

I use Proton VPN.

It's so weird, I just have to connect to the VPN once and the Traeger app stops finding my network permanently. It connects to the grill but doesn't realise the grill is connected to my Wifi.

Even after I uninstall the VPN from the phone, the Traeger app won't work until I do a software reset on the grill.
