Ironwood 885
Does the Ironwood 885 have two or three grate positions? I thought it had three grate positions. I've been using the middle grate position for all my meat smoking. The upper grate position for vegetable's (which I have rarely done so far). I've tried to get the grate to the lowest position, to possibly sear a stake; which I represent isn't what the grill is designed for. But the drip tray top right corner is higher than the lower grate position. Does the drip tray need to be removed when using the lower position? Or am I just off base on how many positions there are for the grates in the Ironwood 885?

^^^^ This.
The side with the wider bend fits into the grease channel. The other side bend has two V notches in it to lock on to the channel on the right side of the barrel

I tried putting it in a$$ways myself onceo_O

Hey guys, would anyone like to try a prototype bamboo lower shelf that I designed and made for Ironwood 885 and Pro Series 780. It's my understanding that the lower leg dimensions are the same for these two Traegers. I confirmed that this shelf dimensions fit a Pro 780, now just looking for someone with an Ironwood 885 to try it out. Let me know if your interested. It's yours to keep, just want some feedback on how well it fit, etc. Direct message or reply to this post if your interested. It will look similar to the attached image.

I have the Ironwood 885 and it actually has two grate positions. The middle one like you mentioned and the upper one. You're right that the lower position isn't designed for searing.
but if you want to try it you can remove the drip tray. The tray's height might be causing the issue you mentioned.

No reason you can't grill in the lowest position. Take a look at the photo from Traeger's web site. I have a IW 650 and I do it all the time. If you can't get the grill to fit there you may have the drip tray installed wrong.

This is exactly what was wrong with mine. Once I swapped out the drip tray diection, the grate sits all the way down. Thanks!!!
