Ironwood 885
Hi all - I recently started getting an er5 error on my ironwood 885. I checked the faq section on the traeger website and seems to be the hot rod being disconnected. I checked the wires and connections and all seem fine but the rod is not heating up. I wanted to check if anyone else had a similar issue and if a rod replacement would fix it or if it could be controller related. Any advice would be much appreciated. For additional context it is an older type ironwood with an arc controller but it seems the model has been discontinued so my second question is if so would a different controller work or is it a case of oem only.
Thanks in advance

Over time, the hot rod can "burn out". Whether the hot rod wires are disconnected or the internal heating element is broken, you would get the same error. The hot rod is considered to be a consumer replaceable part. Since you live in Perth, I have no idea who might stock replacement parts in your area. You can always order one online if you cannot find one locally. In the States, they can be found in places likes Home Depot and Ace Hardware.

Thank you for the response. I ordered the hot rod online, hopefully that solves the issue. It looks like replacing the controller can be rather pricey

The ER5 error usually points to an issue with the hot rod, so replacing it would be a good first step since you've already checked the connections. If the new rod doesn’t solve the problem, it might indeed be the controller. For older Ironwood models, compatibility can be tricky OEM controllers are typically the safest option to ensure proper functionality. If Traeger no longer offers the exact controller, you might want to reach out to their support team to confirm if a newer controller is compatible with your model.

Thanks so much for all the help. I finally received the new hot rod (ebay special) but the grill works fine. Not too sure about the longevity of those but at least I can now get back to smoking meat.
