We are a family of 3 looking at the ironwood but can’t decide between the 885 or 650. We don’t cook for many people but my husband eats enough for 2 people. Is the 650 big enough for the 3 of us or should we just jump
Up to the 885?

I have a 650 and there is just two of us. Although it has enough space, I would opt for the 885 if I was doing this again. You can always use less space inside but if you need more space, you can't create it. I find I cook extra food to freeze and use later. Having some extra space available if you need it would be helpful at times.
I don't think you'd be disappointed in either. My opinion would be if money difference and location space isn't an issue, the bigger size would be my suggestion

I have a 650 and it really does have plenty of space for my cooking needs (family of 3, That entertains often) but if I was to do it all again I’d have a timberline lol

I was given a Pro 780 and thought it was way too big and wished I had the smaller version. Now I wish I had something a little larger. It's mostly my wife and I but when I have family over, or if I want to cook a main course (ribs, pulled pork, etc) I also have plenty of room to cook some side dishes, as well.

There are only two of us, and when I did an upgrade I went timberline for the insulation and external antenna..
the delta between a ironwood@ 1500 and a timberline @ 1800
take a look if it isn’t out of your range you will be happier with a Timberline…

If you don't cook for big groups and it's usually just the 3 of you (even if you husband eats for 2), the 650 will be more than big enough. I would save the extra space and the extra money to use for the other toys he's going to want to buy to use with the Traeger.
