Traeger Ironwood 885
Good morning,

I own a Traeger Ironwood 885 smoker. My wife and I have been discussing screening in our entire patio and it would be equipped with fireplace (gas), outdoor kitchenette, etc. For those who own a Traeger Ironwood 885, the ventilation exhaust is located on the back and it is a down draft exhaust. Ideally, the outdoor kitchenette would have a stone veneer backsplash with stone ventilation system and it would all be built around the Traeger. However with the way the ventilation is setup on the Ironwood 885 to vent downwards, I have concern that the smoke will not vent up into the ventilation system and will be a fire hazard. I do know that the legs of the Traeger and side will have to be removed to support the outdoor setup, which I am totally fine with.

1) Does anyone have this exact type smoker built into their outdoor kitchenette of their screened in patio? Ideally, I am looking for someone to share pictures of their screened in patio setup with their Traeger Ironwood 885 built into the stone wall so I can get a better idea of how the ventilation works for them. Considering that this model smoker has a down draft exhaust capability.

2) Is is possible that I can replace the back ventilation system so that the smoke draft vents upward rather than down?

If I need to elaborate more, I can do so! My apologies up front if what I am trying to explain is not making any sense.

This is the exact smoker that I own if a visual is needed. https://www.traeger.com/pellet-gril...F9xtMafe8IObx1eZHGoM_xQke2SY3N-RoCEWEQAvD_BwE

I would not recommend permanently installing the Ironwood into an outdoor kitchen counter unless you provide plenty of room around the grill or air circulation. Not only do you need space for exit of hot exaust gases from the back of the grill, but you need room of air intake.

There are parts to the Ironwood that will fail over time such as the hot rod and the RTD thermocouple. You will need room for access to the grill to replace these parts. Thus, you need to be able to easily remove the grill for such maintenance.
