I bought my first "Traeger" Grill 2 days ago. I started out wanting to buy the "Ironwood 650". Knowing that Costco was going to have a "Roadshow" I opted to drive the 52 miles to the Lacy WA store. Once in the store, I met a Traeger rep. They only had 3 models to show. They were a Pro, a smaller grill and the "Silverton" to show. I told the Rep I didn't want either the Pro series or the Silverton grill. The rep proceeded to tell me everything that is good about the Silverton grill. He told me about the "super smoke" feature and especially about the "Chicken Challenge" "spread spices over the chicken, put it in the grill set the temperature to 500 and don't open it for 1 hour, it will be the best tasting chicken You ever had" He even told me my grill would be under warranty for 5 years and that Traeger would even come to our house to make any major repairs. Well I was convinced and agreed to buy the grill. I have a very bad back so the salesmen agreed to assemble the grill and loaded it into my truck. By the time I got it home and unloaded, I was not able to do any more that night.
Yesterday, when I read the instruction book I found I was truly duped I got the basic Silverton model 62. Instead of getting what I set out to get, was to buy a "Premium Grill" I was given the Silverton 62. The instruction book notes a model TFS62G and a TFS81B (mine is the TFS62G. What I wanted to buy was the TFS81B. I was unaware that 2 models of the Silverton Grill existed. I would have been more than happy to have paid the difference in price for what I consider would have been the better grill. The Rep had to have known I wouldn't have been able to do the "Chicken Challenge", as well as used the other features that clearly doesn't exist. I believe that guy was just interested in selling a grill at any cost even if it was to lie. Like I said I would have been willing to pay for the better features because I was planning on spending at least $1500.00 for a premium grill. Sadly I fell for the tactics of a used car salesman buying what I thought was great for only $699.00. I would load it back up and take it back to Costco if I didn't have the issues I have with my back.
My plan was to un clutter my patio by replacing an old Master Built smoker, an oil oil less turkey fryer and a Webber Grill. Now I am not so sure I got what I thought I was getting, and don't want to replace anything until I am convinced I got what I planned to get. So before You agree to buy a grill be sure You are getting the correct model. Don't trust a "factory Rep's" word. or better yet Buyer Beware.
On a final thought I haven't fired up the new grill, I don't want to say its bad, I am just saying I didn't get what I set out to get.
