Grill
Silverton 62
I bought my first "Traeger" Grill 2 days ago. I started out wanting to buy the "Ironwood 650". Knowing that Costco was going to have a "Roadshow" I opted to drive the 52 miles to the Lacy WA store. Once in the store, I met a Traeger rep. They only had 3 models to show. They were a Pro, a smaller grill and the "Silverton" to show. I told the Rep I didn't want either the Pro series or the Silverton grill. The rep proceeded to tell me everything that is good about the Silverton grill. He told me about the "super smoke" feature and especially about the "Chicken Challenge" "spread spices over the chicken, put it in the grill set the temperature to 500 and don't open it for 1 hour, it will be the best tasting chicken You ever had" He even told me my grill would be under warranty for 5 years and that Traeger would even come to our house to make any major repairs. Well I was convinced and agreed to buy the grill. I have a very bad back so the salesmen agreed to assemble the grill and loaded it into my truck. By the time I got it home and unloaded, I was not able to do any more that night.
Yesterday, when I read the instruction book I found I was truly duped I got the basic Silverton model 62. Instead of getting what I set out to get, was to buy a "Premium Grill" I was given the Silverton 62. The instruction book notes a model TFS62G and a TFS81B (mine is the TFS62G. What I wanted to buy was the TFS81B. I was unaware that 2 models of the Silverton Grill existed. I would have been more than happy to have paid the difference in price for what I consider would have been the better grill. The Rep had to have known I wouldn't have been able to do the "Chicken Challenge", as well as used the other features that clearly doesn't exist. I believe that guy was just interested in selling a grill at any cost even if it was to lie. Like I said I would have been willing to pay for the better features because I was planning on spending at least $1500.00 for a premium grill. Sadly I fell for the tactics of a used car salesman buying what I thought was great for only $699.00. I would load it back up and take it back to Costco if I didn't have the issues I have with my back.
My plan was to un clutter my patio by replacing an old Master Built smoker, an oil oil less turkey fryer and a Webber Grill. Now I am not so sure I got what I thought I was getting, and don't want to replace anything until I am convinced I got what I planned to get. So before You agree to buy a grill be sure You are getting the correct model. Don't trust a "factory Rep's" word. or better yet Buyer Beware.
On a final thought I haven't fired up the new grill, I don't want to say its bad, I am just saying I didn't get what I set out to get.

Man, that's a sad story! I'd be inclined to return it on principal. Get some help loading it, take it back and have them unload it. I hate being lied to.

And, that rep should be smacked!

I'd take it back too (out of principle as well) and I would speak to the manager of that Costco and tell him about the Traeger Rep. I doubt he'll be back at any Costco after they hear about this.

I agree with the others - I’d return it and have the mgr comp you a few bags of pellets for your troubles. That’s a pretty long drive to make.

if you keep it you may find yourself not liking the grill because it isn’t what you set out to buy.

Agreed, I'd return it also. And let the manager know you aren't to happy.

Take it back, Costco has a excellent return policy... get a couple of neighbor kids to load it, the Costco team will iunload it for you. Tell the Costco manager about it, they can’t fix it if they don’t know about it.
I traded my 810 in for a 1300 and ACE not only will they set it up, they also deliver (at least ours does. For free)

I wish to thank everyone's advice. because of the bad issues I have with my back, I was tempted to keep it just because I wasn't sure if I could reload the grill into my truck. Thank Goodness I was able to pick it up and place it on the bed of my pickup with my tractor and forks. I brought it back to Costco yesterday afternoon. Their guys lifted it out of my truck and without a question they returned my money. I plan on going to a local ACE store and hopefully they will assemble and deliver what I really wanted. I am tossed between the smaller Timberline or the Ironwood 650. I not sure which of the 2 are better. But whatever I buy I won't settle for again.

I'm a bit late to this discussion. Two years ago, we were at Costco and got the Traeger Rep's spiel and left with a Silverton. We assembled it and tried cooking on it for several meals over the next couple of weeks. I was very disappointed that the grill did not fire up properly and would not hold a the desired temperature. After repeated efforts, we finally gave up, loaded it in our utility trailer and returned it to Costco for a full refund. We then went to Bry's Furniture in Marysville, WA and found our Timberline 850, which we absolutely love. I highly recommend Bry's. (we have no affiliation) They have been Traeger dealers for a long time and have a great selection of pellet grills and accessories.

caq, sorry you got played the victim, but I'm afraid there is a bigger disease running around the country today than covid, it's called Sociopath!!
There is an extreme lack of conscience in a great number of millennials of today which will make for a :poop:hole of a country 40 years from now.

Glad you made the move!

I'm a fan of the Timberline's because they are super heavy duty as far as the build quality, super sealed, double walled, all heavy stainless grates, but pricy. Some don't like the grease drain system being internal, I do but made some changes. It's VERY heavy.

The Ironwood is probably best value.

None are perfect, you will likely want to add a better Wi-Fi temp monitoring unit like the Fireboard 2 with any of the grill's as the Traeger temps are just not designed well.

What RemE Said... though I went with the T1300 from the Silverton 810, Mostly because the Price Delta was only 10%, ( between the 850 and the 1300) In retrospect it was a good decision as the T1300 is a bit longer and does not seem to have the Temp control issues that the 850 has. Also with the RemE Timberline insulation project listed here in the Forum, I also burn fewer pellets' on the T1300 than on the 810 ( and the Grand Kids do not get burned trying to help)...
Last week I did a 12 LB Brisket a 6 Qt cast iron bean pot and 2 sticks of ribs on the upper shelf... ( took the middle shelf out).

I am a bit confused, I just bought the Silverton 620 last night, what features did the rep tell you were available that end up not being part of the 620 unit? My serial # is tfs62gvf. Wonder if I need to think about returning it.

Dude, the guy who started this thread hasn't been here since March 30th, don't feel bad about your purchase, just start to LEARN it and it should be okay.

WELCOME to the forums

The plus side is that since you bought it from Costco, you can return it no problem, and no questions. Maybe you can get a Neighbor kid to help you load it, when I returned my Silverton Costco brought 5 guys out and took it off my truck, put it on a Flat and then took it to the return desk. I handed them the receipt and without a blink they refunded to total purchase even though I had used it maybe 5 - 10 times.
Then I went to a Traeger Platinum Dealer and got what I wanted... If you did not get what you wanted you will be sorry in the long run....

I bought the silverton 810, i had to buy stove gasket material to seal up the lid to get any smoke into the food cooking chamber. my only complaint is that the smoker actual temp is 30 degrees cooler than the what the controller says it is. Traeger provided another conrtoller board and temp probe on charge, but i had to install. still 30 degrees lower than the controller says it is. as measured by my THERMOWORKS . but it produces good food. if i had it to do all over again, i would buy the Camp Chef as it is easier to clean out.
