- Timberline 1300, Blackstone 36" Griddle
Good morning all,
I'm a bit late to the show. I purchased an Ironwood 650 in April 2020 and it's been working great. I even started my own Instagram channel "OvernightBBQRyan" when lock downs started and I needed a new hobby. Turns out I enjoy cooking, even if it's using my Blackstone 36" griddle.
Back story- My father purchased a little $400 Traeger at Costco 3 years ago or so and we used to go his home every Sunday to eat smoked BBQ and play in the pool. Well that was great and I loved it and didn't have the money to buy one. Well one day I walk outside my garage and see my new neighbor moving in has the exact same little traeger and a week later my other neighbor on the the other side of me also has the exact same one. Multiple weekends I'd walk outside and smell that heavenly smoke and I folded like a lawn chair. Well, I like to buy things ONE time so I decided to do my research and get an Ironwood 885. I stroll down to the local Ace and they only had the 650 in stock and it was plenty big. Looked 3 times larger than the one my father used and I was saving some money I bought it. Then as it turns out I'm pretty good with this thing.
Which leads me to today. I'm craving a larger smoker. Now, the 650 works flawlessly and it gets used 2-3 times per week. My only complaint is paint peeling and bare metal resulting in minor rust. Even rust on the inside. My lanai is terribly small so it's always stayed in my garage since the day I've owned it. Never seen rain. Never had a flare up either and customer service turned me down on helping in any way shape or form. So here I am, a bit salty and disappointed. Now, I'm torn between multiple smokers and want something soon. I've maxed out the capacity on the 650 multiple times wishing I got the 885. I may or may not pick up a Timberline 1300 today and get 5% cash back thru my PayPal/Discover and earn Ace rewards, but I've got issues with Traeger customer service and paint peeling. Also, I think a smoker of this magnitude should have two probes and a folding front shelf. The other ones I'm considering are the Yoder 640S and RecTeq 700. The Recteq doesn't appear to have much headroom/height and only gaining 50 sq inches but construction and customer service seems top notch and it's only $1200. The Yoders are like a 2 hour drive from me and seem to be great too. Any advice?
Sorry for the long post! Happy to be here and get constructive comments in return. Also, don't forget to check out my instagram channel!
Thank you
