Hey everyone,
As we continue to prioritize healthier cooking methods and sustainable practices, it's important to also consider the packaging that our food comes in. Recently, I came across an interesting article discussing PFAS (Per and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in food packaging and its potential health risks. It's definitely worth taking a look if you're concerned about what's in your food packaging. The blog delves into the issue and offers insights into how we can make more informed choices. You can read more about it here.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this topic!

The problem is that PFAS is used in many products. Many cosmetics such as lipstick and eye liner contain PFAS to improve shine and water resistance. Because of the PFAS in the environment, recycled paper tends to have PFAS. This is an environmental conflict as recycling paper reduces waste in landfills, but things like cardboard, container board used for packaging, and toilet tissue often has high levels of recycled paper and so will contain PFAS. The Federal Government Printing Office requires 30% recycled paper content in everything they purchase if the product is available in the marketplace.

If you are concerned about PFAS in your drinking water, both tap water and 60% of bottled water will contain PFAS. Water filters such as Brita will not remove it. Your best bet is to install a reverse osmosis (RO) water filter to purify your water. However, the RO system also removes minerals that you body needs, so make sure you get enough from your diet and supplements.
