I’ve got 24 drumsticks from Costco I’m making tomorrow night for some familyX I e looked at the app and old forums for some recipes, but what are your favorite ways of treating drumsticks?

Ps I ordered a chicken leg hanging rack online but it won’t come in until after tomorrow, but I found a couple in a local brick and mortar. Do you think I need to to pick them up to smoke them?

I’ve used the recipe in the Traeger app before, they came out pretty good.

No you don’t need a rack, just put them directly on the grate.

I do not have a hanging rack & have always done them directly on the grate,
I usually smoke them at 180 degrees for 90 minutes before finishing them at 350 degrees.
They always come out great. So do the thighs.

I’m a racking’ guy (‘cause I it for Christmas a few years ago). I rack them unseasoned in the refer overnight to tighten the skin. 275* for about 2 hours, dipping twice in a vinegar based BBQ sauce.

Question for those of you who use racks for chicken legs, etc:

What benefit do you derive by using a rack on a Traeger?

For me, two benefits…

(Oneth) I think hanging the racked drumsticks in the refer overnight greatly enhances the skin-bite at dinner time.

(Tooth) I dip the legs in sauce twice during the cook, and hanging doesn’t leave “racing stripes” on the finished product from laying on the rack.

THANKS for that info

I season mine with a half and half mixture of Rendezvous dry rib rub and Adkins Chicken rub. Then put the directly on the grates. The only time I use my hanging racks, and I have three (1 I bought the others were gifts from friends) is when I’m doing a ton. My racks will hold a combined total of 48.
