I see that screws are holding this in place on my IW650. I have cleaned and vacuumed out the inside, but still getting a decent amount of ash on the food. Last night I noticed a lot of ash on the outside of the grill all around the exhaust. I smacked once, and TONS of ash flew out, I did it while it was preheating. Is it ok to remove that cover and clean in there, or is there something that would be screwed up if I do?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

When cleaning my grill,I take my leaf blower and blow all the ash out of the exhaust ports. No need to remove.

Ah. I like that idea. Hoping it gets rid of this ash problem.

The leaf blower trick works quite well. I just remove the grates, drip pan, and flame shield over the burn pot and give everything a good blast.

Just make sure there is a wind blowing from behind you when you attempt this. Otherwise, you might get a ash in your eyes, nose and mouth.
