Regulate heat by chimney rain cover down to cool raise to increase heat in stove. My Treager 22 the rain cover is almost touching the chimney but the temperature is very close to dial control setting .

I keep mine on my 870 Pro turned down to about 1/2 inch, to hold the smoke from my smoke tubes in the cooking chamber longer. Been working really good for a couple years. The only time I open it up about twice as much is when I’m cooking at 400 or higher.

thanks shedd-i had mine closed down to the "thumbs width" recommended, wanting to do everything "right", but now as i've been using my traeger for a couple of years switching from years of an electric masterbuilt, it's time to begin thinking outside the box. i've purchased a couple of smoke tubes i have used occasionally but they can be a pain in...

thank you red-my concern there was getting too much smoke as one of the best things i've enjoed with traeger is the evenness of the smoke distribution regardless of how much meat i have loaded. hearing that you can close it down that much without issues is good to know

I set my cap (like Shed) to achieve about a 1/2 inch spacing. The only thing the cap is doing at a close spacing is allowing the smoke and heat to spend a little more time in the cooking chamber. Don't worry about having it to close, if the fan could push more air than what can exhaust thru the stack it just exits the 2 inch square grease drip tube that your drip bucket hooks on to. Thanks for checking the forum, good folks and good recipes.

Yes I set the temp now then fine tune the temp with raising or Lowering the rain cap if needed.
Works great !
Traeger 22

Traeger Customer Service actually no help !
Had to learn this with the rain cap raising and lowering on my own but will share info with board members !

I bought a pimp my grill chrome trucker style smoke stack for my 780. I’ve been using it for a couple years now. IMO there is no difference if it runs wide open or if you crank the cap clear down. The air will find a way to escape beings it is pushed by the fan.
