Going to use my Traeger ironwood 885 for the 1st time tomorrow. Going to cook 2- 5lb chickens using a weber beer infusion roaster. My question is if I put the setting on super smoke how long do I leave it on for? Then I have to change the temperature to 350. Just not sure how much time for both.Looking forward to some delicious juicy chicken. Thanks for your help.

I would forgo super smoke with any poultry personally and rather cook them at 350-400 all the way from start to finish. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thank you for your input I appreciate your help as I don't know anything about cooking food on a smoker. So when I set up the app that will show me how long to cook the chickens for?I should use the meat prob that came with it?

Chicken is done when middle of breast meat it’s 165. You can use the probe provided but I always highly recommend buying a high quality instant read thermometer to double check and confirm your Traeger probe. If there is a disagreement between the probe readings I always concede to the instant read as they are almost always far More accurate.

Recipes with a time and temp are simply for ballpark reference. The protein is done when the internal temp has reached your particular desired temperature reading. Always. Every piece of meat is different. Sometimes slightly and other times dramatically. Good luck.

Maybe its too late for the cook now. But in my opinion and seems most people here, is that if you want real smoke you need to use smoke tubes, they work very well. I personally dont notice a difference from super smoke to no super smoke, but maybe thats just my observation.

1st beer chicken came out awesome. Nice and juicy!Used a weber deluxe poultry roaster kept all the juices in a container. Had burgers tonight was expecting nice sear marks on my burger at 500 degrees very disappointed. I'm going to get a oven thermometer to make sure that the temperature is correct.Has anyone tried GrillGrate for searing?

GrillGrates work as advertised. Great product.

Don’t discount changing your approach either. A burger cooked at 300-350 on a Traeger is different to how I was used to having them but find them quite delicious. They get a lacquered look to them due to the kiss of pellet smoke. I would recommend giving them a try at least when you have a hankering for something different. They might surprise you as well.

I love burgers on Traeger, a whole different texture and flavor, but one I completely enjoy... maybe because I used to frequent a meat shop that cooked lunch on a Traeger and I got used to the smell and taste of the place.
