Im sorry to post one more of these...but Im out of ideas and would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

So I got home today with a brand new Traeger 780 PRO and the assembly was a piece of cake, but pairing not so much. First I thought it had something to do with the 6 beers that was mandatory according to the assembly instructions....

Done everything according to this thread "New Grill? WiFi CONNECTION ISSUES?? START HERE FIRST!!" and 6h later I am still stuck at last step, i.e. when the grill is connected to my wifi and I click the set nickname button the installation seems to be complete (no error messages) but the grill is not paired in the app and the grill is back to connected to its local wifi hotspot again, not my home network.

Just to state a few...
Using fiber with Asus RT-AC68U as router.
Enabled 2.4GHz only, 5GHz Wi-Fi network disabled
Wifi auto connecting and Private relay on my phone disabled
IOS latest version, Latest IOS Traeger app version, reinstalled a few times
Flight mode enabled
Phone is connected to 2.4GHz only, and the 5GHz Wi-Fi network is "forgotten" on the phone.
Power cycled router, phone and grill
Tried all router channels, including auto
Signal strength 38-42 dbm, the grill confirms it during pairing as well
Factory resetted the grill (firmware is 01.00.10 and not 02.02.02) - I do it each time I try something new or else I will not be able to come to last step, the pairing always fails earlier.
Ensuring the app device defaulting back to the home network correctly.
Tried placing the grill between 1-20 feet away from router, facing the router with direct line of sight
Waited 4h to see if it magically has been connected (even though it clearly showed that the wifi was connected to wifire access point and not my home network)

The Traeger support is closed now but I will contact them next week if this is not solved by then. I was just thinking if you guys could see anything obvious that I have missed.

.... Also set up a separate network that is only 2.4GHz. It's only for the Traeger.

Using an Android, but it worked when the "auto reconnect" network setting was set to on.

Not sure this info will help, but it took a long time to figure this out for me, too. I'm not sure why they restrict it to 2.4GHz.

So I contacted support and the controller need to be flashed with a new firmware, 01.00.10 doesn’t work. They will send me a return label and when they fixed it they will return it, hopefully soon.

Happy that there’s a solution, not so happy about what I had to do to get here and that this is needed on a brand new grill.
